EAU CLAIRE - St. Norbert College couldn't overcome a cold-shooting third quarter in a 51-38 loss to UW-Eau Claire in a non-conference game at Zorn Arena.

The Green Knights trailed 27-24 at halftime but then went 2-for-18 from the floor in the decisive third period as Eau Claire opened up a 38-28 lead.

St. Norbert had a solid start, opening up a 9-4 lead after snapping a 4-4 tie on a 3-pointer by Macie Zurfluh and a basket by Kaycee Gierczak. Eau Claire would score the next five points to tie the score at 9-9 but Sarah Neumann made a pair of free throws for the Green Knights for an 11-9 lead. The Blugolds would score the last five points of the first quarter to take a 14-11 advantage.

Eau Claire would lead by as many as seven points in the second quarter at 25-18 but the Green Knights would get to within three points on two occasions, the last on an Ali Hoeft layup just before the horn to trim the deficit to 27-24.

A Zurfluh basket with 7:32 left in the third quarter would bring St. Norbert to within 31-28, but the Blugolds would close the period on a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the final period. The Green Knights would get back to within seven points at 41-34 on a Sarah Chouinard basket with 7:54 to play, but they would get no closer.

St. Norbert shot 27.5 percent from the floor, making 14 of 51 field-goal attempts. Zurfluh led St. Norbert with 12 points and eight rebounds. Gierczak and Jessica Boerner had seven points apiece.

Eau Claire shot 35.2 percent from the floor, canning 19 of 54 shots. Anna Graaskamp led the Blugolds with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Hailee Hoeppner added 10 points.
