Yost Stays Hot, Green Knights Rout Loras

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Jared Yost continued his torrid offensive start to the season and helped St. Norbert College beat Loras College 14-4 at Chain of Lakes Stadium.

Yost went 3-for-5 with three runs scored to improve his batting average to .571 (12-for-21) through five games. The Green Knights (3-2) had 12 hits in the game and took advantage of nine Loras walks to score in every inning but the third and seventh.

St. Norbert scored four times in the bottom of the first inning. Loras starter Kyler Laurie walked the bases loaded to start the inning. Tony Jandron stroked an RBI single, and Cory Fuller followed with a two-run single. Jordan Vater then had an RBI groundout.

After Loras scored once in the second, St. Norbert added two more runs on a Jandron sacrifice fly and a Fuller groundout. The Green Knights scored three times in the fourth on a Jandron fielder's choice, a Fuller single and a Garrick Fisher sacrifice fly.

Jandron had an RBI single in the fifth, and two runs scored on the play on an outfield error to give St. Norbert an 11-1 lead through five innings.

Jeff Schneider scored in the eighth on a passed ball and Yost singled home Joe Vanden Avond to end the game.

Brett Birkholz finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Jandron and Fuller were both 2-for-4 with four RBIs apiece.

Tony Zacharias picked up the win for St. Norbert in his first collegiate appearance. Zacharias worked 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and three walks and one strikeout. Matt Hannon finished up, allowing three hits in 2.1 innings.
