Green Knights Can't Overcome Slow Start at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't overcome an early double-digit deficit as the Green Knights dropped a 63-48 decision to Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Glennie Gym.

Monmouth jumped out to an early 14-5 lead and took a 19-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Green Knights got back to within single digits at 21-12 with 4:21 left in the second quarter on a conventional three-point play by Macie Zurfluh. St. Norbert got to within eight points twice, on a pair of Zurfluh free throws at the 3:09 mark to get to within 24-16, and at 26-18 with 2:02 left on a Jessica Boerner basket. Monmouth settled on a 32-20 halftime lead.

The Fighting Scots took a pair of 18-point leads in the third quarter before St. Norbert got back to a 42-31 deficit after a 7-0 run, capped by a Sarah Neumann basket. Monmouth would lead 50-35 after three quarters and never led by less than 11 points in the fourth quarter.

St. Norbert shot 37.7 percent (20-for-53) from the floor. Zurfluh was the only Green Knights in double figures, scoring 22 points.

Monmouth shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the floor. Kaitlyn Osmulski had a team-high 14 points, while Becca Gallis added 13 points for the Fighting Scots.
