Green Knights Roll Past Buccaneers

BELOIT - St. Norbert College shot a season-high 53.7 percent from the floor as the Green Knights romped to a 68-52 win over Beloit College in a Midwest Conference game at Flood Arena.

The Green Knights canned 29 of 54 field-goal attempts, including a 10-for-15 (66.7 percent) effort in the third quarter.

The first quarter featured five ties and four lead changes, with Beloit holding a 17-15 lead after the first quarter. The Green Knights would take control in the second quarter, with Macie Zurfluh's basket on the opening possession of the period tying the score at 17-17. Kaycee Gierczak's hoop at the 7:15 mark put St. Norbert ahead 19-17, and it would not trail the rest of the game.

St. Norbert held a 24-23 lead with 3:08 left in the quarter before closing the half on a 12-3 run to take a 36-26 edge at halftime. Hannah Gibbons had a pair of baskets early in the run, while Gierczak added a conventional three-point play and another hoop late.

The Green Knights eventually opened up a 21-point lead when Jessica Boerner's basket with 1:46 left in the half accounted for a 55-34 lead. St. Norbert, which led 56-38 at the end of the third quarter, never led by less than 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Gierczak posted a career-high 21 points coming off the bench for the Green Knights. Zurfluh also added 13 points while dishing out 10 assists. Natalie Cerrato chipped in with nine points.

Beloit shot 37.7 percent (20-for-53) from the floor. Dani Strejc led the Buccaneers with 12 points, while T'Aira Boyance added 11 points.
