Hot Start Powers Green Knights Past Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College jumped out to a 28-point lead late in the first half and the Green Knights cruised to a 61-35 win over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (7-13, 6-7 MWC) built a whopping 33-5 lead with 2:41 left in the second quarter en route to their sixth win in their last nine games.

St. Norbert led 4-2 in the early going before going on a 9-0 run to break things open. Jessica Boerner posted six points during the run, which saw the Green Knights lead 13-2 nearly six minutes into the game. Following a Lawrence 3-pointer at the 3:47 mark, Mary Cravillion countered with a pair of 3-pointers and Macie Zurfluh added a hoop for a 21-5 lead after the first quarter.

The Green Knights kept up the defensive pressure, holding Lawrence scoreless the first 8:01 of the second quarter, which ended an overall St. Norbert run of 20-0 that spanned 10:58 - just over a quarter of the game. Boerner had eight points in the second quarter portion of the run, while Cravillion banged in another 3-pointer for a 33-5 lead with 2:41 left before halftime. The Vikings scored the last six points of the half to get to within 33-11 at intermission.

St. Norbert scored the first five points of the third quarter to lead 38-11. Lawrence never got closer than 23 points the rest of the way.

The Green Knights shot 46 percent from the floor, canning 23 of 50 field-goal attempts. Boerner led the Green Knights with 16 points, while Cravillion added nine points.

Lawrence shot 25 percent (12-for-48) from the floor. Kenya Earl led the Vikings with 11 points and eight rebounds.
