DE PERE - St. Norbert College lifted the curtain on its men's volleyball program in front of the home fans but came up shy in a 3-0 loss to Loras College in a non-conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. The Duhawks tripped the Green Knights 25-17, 25-19, 25-16.
Playing in front of a large partisan crowd, the Green Knights fell behind 11-4 in the first set but battled back to a 17-13 deficit on a Jake Bettag service ace. St. Norbert would stay within four points at 18-14 on a Ben Rinella kill, but would get no closer.
The Green Knights hung around in the second set and then got off to a solid start in the third set, building a 10-6 lead after a Sean Loughney service ace. But Loras would rattle off 12 of the next 13 points to open up an 18-11 advantage to take control.
St. Norbert hit .022 for the match, getting 23 kills and 21 errors in 92 attempts. Jake Krueger had a team-high nine kills, while Josh Hauke added four. Ben Rinella finished with 11 assists and Eddie Pacula had eight.
