St. Norbert Closes Regular Season With Shutout of Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College wrapped up the regular season with a 6-0 win over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights will face the Vikings against next weekend in a two-game first-to-three-points NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs Quarterfinal Series on Feb. 21-22 also at the Cornerstone Community Center.

St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Ben Schmidling scored at the 9:08 mark. That goal would hold up through two periods, with the Green Knights carrying that edge into the third period.

Chase Mickelson scored 3:45 into the third period for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 St. Norbert lead. The Green Knights then pulled away with a pair of goals 12 seconds apart. Schmidling scored for the 12th time this season with a score at 11:57, while Evan Cholak scored at 12:09. St. Norbert then added a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 16:07 from Kurt Black - his team-high 18th of the year - while Tim Nicksic scored a power-play goal at 17:10.

Schmidling added a pair of assists for a four-point game. Mickelson had an assist for a two-point game, while Keegan Milligan and Michael Spethmann each had two assists.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 50-17, with Colby Entz making all 17 saves to earn his second career shutout for St. Norbert. Brian Tallieu made 44 saves for the Vikings, who had 44 penalty minutes.

The Green Knights were 2-for-9 on the power play, while the Vikings were 0-for-1.
