St. Norbert In the Hunt After First Day of MWC Indoor Championship

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College finished just two points out of first place after the first day of the Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at Grinnell College's Bear Athletic Center.

The Green Knights totaled 66 points to trail front-running Monmouth College's 68 points. Grinnell is a distant third place with 37 points through seven of 18 events.

St. Norbert posted a pair of conference champions on the first day, with Jaxsen Schermacher winning the pole vault with a height of 15 feet 11 inches. Joe Gasick took home the gold medal in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:24.41.

Sam Stelloh also set a Midwest Conference record in the 60-meter hurdles during preliminary heats, finishing with a time of 8.23 seconds - eclipsing his own school record of 8.24 seconds set this past Saturday.

The 1,600-meter sprint medley of Robert Tetzlaff, Ryan Priebe, Samuel Fletcher and Randy Johnson finished in third place with a time of 3:39.96. Schermacher finished in third place in the long jump at 22-0 3/4, while Max Schermacher finished in third place in the pole vault at 14-5 1/4.

Miles Mulder finished third in the 1-mile run at 4:27.06, followed by Matthew McKendry in fifth place at 4:29.48 and Matt Holloway in sixth place at 4:30.33.

Nic Greenlaw, Stelloh, Priebe and Bright Boachie finished fourth in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:34.48.

Lorenz Jordan finished in fifth place in the 5,000-meter run at 15:54.22, while Sam Wahlers was sixth in the pole vault at 13-5 1/4. Oren Kestell was seventh in the long jump at 21-0 3/4, followed by Samuel Fletcher in eighth at 20-8.
