Green Knights Open Season With Split

DECATUR, Ill. - St. Norbert College got its 2020 season underway with a split of two games at the Millikin University Tournament at Workman Family Baseball Field. The Green Knights lost their opener 7-0 to Millikin before bouncing back to top Knox College 11-1.

The Green Knights got off to a fast start against Knox, when Lucas Reynolds led off the game with a triple and then scored on Brett Reinhart's double. Max Van Boxel's sacrifice fly later plated Reinhart for a two-run lead. St. Norbert added a single run in the third inning when Jack Maastricht's single brought Reynolds home.

St. Norbert added two runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Van Boxel. After Knox scored a run in its half of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-1, the Green Knights broke the game open with five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Reynolds brought home a run on a sacrifice fly, while Brett Reinhart had an RBI groundout and Van Boxel a run-scoring double. St. Norbert added a single run in the top of the seventh when Reynolds was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

Tommy Maher got the win on the mound for St. Norbert, allowing three hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts in five innings pitched. Van Boxel was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Reynolds was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Maastricht was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jacob Rajkovich was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Against Millikin, the Green Knights were held to four hits and left six runners on base. Michael Larsen led St. Norbert offensively, going 2-for-3.

Nick Klavekoske took the loss, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in five innings pitched.
