DE PERE - The Midwest Conference Presidents Council unanimously announced today it will not sponsor league competition, including championships, for fall and winter sports during the 2020-2021 academic year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Norbert College sports affected are men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field and women's volleyball.

All St. Norbert College student-athletes will return to campus with the general student body for the start of spring semester on February 1, 2021.

"The ongoing health crisis is something we at St. Norbert College are taking very seriously," St. Norbert College president Brian Bruess said. "All of our students' well-being is of utmost concern, and that includes our student-athletes. Athletics will always be an important part of the student experience here and we look forward to that continuing when circumstances allow."

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference have not yet reached decisions on competition for 2020-21. St. Norbert belongs to the NCHA in men's and women's hockey and to the NACC in men's volleyball and men's and women's golf. Similar metrics will likely be used in the decision-making process in determining whether those sports will participate.

Training, skill development and strength and conditioning sessions may continue for fall and winter sport athletes at the discretion of each institution. The Presidents Council also endorsed the concept of institutional autonomy with regard to scrimmages and competition.

St. Norbert College athletics competition has been on hiatus since March 15, when spring sports competition was cancelled.
