Lakeland Sweeps St. Norbert

HOWARDS GROVE - St. Norbert College dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Lakeland College 10-1 and 9-7 at Memorial Park.

The Green Knights, playing their first games since March 20, dropped to 2-10 overall. Lakeland improved to 11-5.

St. Norbert, which had four hits in the opener, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener when Kristin Zimmerman singled in Kayla Krueger. Lakeland scored twice in the third and once in the fourth before putting the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning. Lakeland's Chelsea Coenen was 2-for-4 with two home runs and six runs batted in in the opener.

Kayla Krueger took the loss for St. Norbert allowing nine hits and eight earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Lakeland took a 7-0 lead before St. Norbert scored five times in the fifth inning. Amy Brunner and Kim Sawyer had RBI doubles in the inning, while four Lakeland errors contributed to the uprising. The Muskies answered with two in the fifth before St. Norbert got two in the seventh on a Krueger RBI single and a run-scoring triple by Brieanne Oehlke.

Jessica Kropp took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing seven hits and seven runs with four walks and seven strikeouts in four innings. Oehlke and Stephanie Ortiz were both 2-for-3 in the nightcap for the Green Knights.
