Offense Busts Out as Green Knights Batter Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College's offense broke out in a big way with a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Carroll University by scores of 7-0 and 8-0 at Kilgour Field.

The Green Knights have won three straight games to improve to 5-11 overall and 3-1 in the MWC North Division. The Pioneers dropped to 10-8, 2-4.

St. Norbert pounded out 23 hits in the doubleheader, getting 12 in the opener and 11 in the nightcap - including four home runs in the nightcap. Kayla Krueger pitched a one-hit shutout in game one while Jessica Kropp followed up with a four-hitter in game two.

Kristin Zimmerman singled in Tracy Palmer in the first inning of the opener to give the Green Knights a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert followed with a five-run second inning. Palmer hit a two-run double, while Stephanie Ortiz had an RBI double and Kim Sawyer a run-scoring single.

Sawyer was 3-for-4 in the opener, while Palmer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Krueger and Zimmerman were also both 2-for-4.

Krueger did not walk a batter and struck out three. Jackie Messler's single in the second inning was Carroll's only hit in the game.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert scored four runs in the second inning to again take command early. Collette Ullmer drove in a run with a groundout, followed by an RBI single from Palmer and a two-run home run by Ortiz. The Green Knights added three runs in the fifth on a solo home run from Krueger and a two-run shot by Brieanne Oehlke. Oehlke added a solo home run in the seventh.

Oehlke finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Ortiz was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Sawyer was again 3-for-4.

Kropp walked just one Carroll hitter and struck out three to improve to 2-4 on the season.
