Green Knights Split With Buccaneers

DE PERE - St. Norbert College split a Midwest Conference doubleheader with Beloit College, winning the opener 11-7 before dropping the nightcap 10-7 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights (14-8, 5-1 MWC) rallied from a 7-4 deficit in game one. Beloit (20-5, 7-3) scored three times in the top of the sixth to grab a 7-4 lead before St. Norbert answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to square the game at 7-7. Jared Yost hit an RBI double and Cory Fuller added a two-run double in the inning.

St. Norbert pushed across four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the game's final runs. Matt Hannon stroked a two-run single, and following a walk to Yost, Tony Jandron ripped a run-scoring hit. Garrick Fisher then singled to drive in Yost to complete the big inning.

Justin Wotachek twirled three innings of one-hit relief to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Green Knights banged out 16 hits in the game, with Yost and Jandron both going 3-for-4. Fuller was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and a double and triple. Hannon was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Fisher was 2-for-5.

St. Norbert fell behind early in the nightcap, trailing 7-2 through three winning. The Green Knights had nine hits and drew nine walks but left 10 runners on base. St. Norbert pulled to within 10-7 in the bottom of the eighth and had the tying run at the plate in the inning but could keep the rally going.

Yost was 3-for-5, while Hannon was 2-for-3 with a home run. Fisher was 2-for-2. Jordan Vater provided five innings of relief, allowing five hits and one run with two walks and five strikeouts.
