St. Norbert Handles Ripon

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College got its Midwest Conference women's tennis schedule off on the right foot with an 8-1 win over Ripon College at Western Racquet Club.

The Green Knights improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MWC North Division, while Ripon fell to 1-3, 0-1.

St. Norbert swept all three doubles points to open the match. Lauren Post and Kelly Van Handel topped Josie Ullsperger and Ellie Hedberg 8-1 to win No. 1 doubles. Allyson Yankle and Erin Riutta also had an 8-1 win at No. 2 by topping Brooke Deans and Megan Sockness. Maria Slusarek and Anna Reardon finished off the sweep with an 8-0 win over Chelsey Foster and Olivan Wetzel at No. 3.

In singles action, Post beat Ullsperger 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Van Handel blanked Hedberg 6-0, 6-0. Yankle defeated Foster 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, while Slusarek beat Alison Thies 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Reardon defeated Wetzel 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 to round out St. Norbert's victory.
