Green Knights Top Grinnell

DE PERE - It took four sets to do it but St. Norbert College topped Grinnell College 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19 in a Midwest Conference match at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights improved to 13-7, 2-0 in the Midwest Conference, while Grinnell fell to 8-12, 0-2.

St. Norbert led 9-7 in the first set before slowly pulling away. Grinnell hung to within 15-10 but St. Norbert went on an 8-2 run, including a pair of kills by Sam Jungbluth, to seal the win.

Grinnell jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the second set before the Green Knights charged back to tie the score at 19-19. St. Norbert led 23-22 in the second set before the Pioneers scored the set's last four points.

The third set was tied 10-10 before St. Norbert slowly pulled away. Grinnell closed to within 20-16 but would get no closer than four points the rest of the set.

St. Norbert led 10-8 in the fourth set before going on a 11-2 run to take a 21-12 lead.

The Green Knights hit .161 in the match and had 58 kills, with Jungbluth and Lauren Meehan each getting 13 and Danielle Remy 11. Laura Ayello had 47 assists and 24 digs, while Catherine Guido had 23 digs. Remy added four blocks.

Claire Reeder led Grinnell with 12 kills, while Olivia Wilks had 31 assists and Caroline Beach 22 digs.
