GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College and Hamline University skated to a 1-1 tie in a game that featured superb goaltending in a non-conference game at the Cornerstone Community Center.
St. Norbert's B.J. O'Brien and Hamline's Beau Christian both posted big save totals as the two teams settled for a stalemate. O'Brien made 30 saves, including a full splits save in the first period and a breakaway stop in the second period. Christian made 33 saves and kept the Pipers in the game with several difficult stops.
St. Norbert had six power-play opportunities in the second period and didn't officially score on any of them, but scored the game's first goal six seconds after a penalty expired. Matt Boyd poked in a loose puck off an initial Cody Keefer shot at the 16 minute 11 second mark of the second period.
Hamline then went on a 5-on-3 power play almost immediately after the goal and cashed in with 1 seconds left on the initial penalty. Taylor Vichorek knocked home the puck on a scramble at the 18:23 mark, with Brian Arrigoni and Chris Berenguer assisting.
Neither team had a quality scoring chance in the overtime.
St. Norbert outshot Hamline 34-31. The Pipers were 1-for-5 on the power play, while St. Norbert was 0-for-6 overall.
