St. Norbert Battles NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay in Exhibition Loss

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College hung with NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay for a half but fell 71-54 to the cross-town Phoenix in front of 3,135 at the Kress Events Center.
The much smaller Green Knights trailed 32-26 at halftime and trailed 37-28 with 16 minutes 59 seconds left to play, but a quick 7-0 run over the next two minutes gave Green Bay a 44-28 bulge. St. Norbert would not get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
St. Norbert fell behind 14-4 just 6 1/2 minutes into the game and trailed 24-9 with 6:59 left in the first half. Brumm connected on two 3-pointers, and John Taylor and Jack Whalen each connected on a trey to cut into the deficit. Wipperfurth made a pair of free throws and Steve Papke canned a jumper with 1:42 left in the first half to cut it to 3-26, but Rahmon Fletcher's layup with 12 seconds left in the half put the halftime score at 32-26.
Mike Brumm came off the bench to lead St. Norbert with 13 points, canning 4 of 6 3-point field goal attempts. Chris Peterson and Dave Wipperfurth each had seven points for the Green Knights, which shot 36.5 percent (19-for-52) from the floor. St. Norbert did yeoman's work on the glass, trailing in the rebounding total just 37-34.
Green Bay shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59) from the floor for the game, and made 50 percent of its baskets in the second half. Fletcher led the Phoenix with 20 points, while Bryquis Perine added 12 points.
