Green Knights Run Past Silver Lake to Open 2009-10 Season

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got the 2009-10 season off to a good start with a 112-73 win over Silver Lake College in a non-conference game with a rare midnight start at Schuldes Sports Center.

St. Norbert (1-0) shot 61.9 percent from the floor, making 39-for-63 field goals. The Green Knights shot a blistering 18-for-23 (78.3 percent) from behind the three-point arc.

St. Norbert and Silver Lake were tied at 6-6 before St. Norbert went on a 17-6 run to take a 23-13 lead with 11:27 left in the first half. The Lakers cut the deficit to 23-16, but St. Norbert went on a 26-3 run over the next 5 1/2 minutes for a 49-19 lead and the game was effectively over.

John Taylor led all scorers with 17 points, making five 3-pointers. Paul Appleton had 16 points in his first collegiate game, canning four 3-pointers. Jimmy Martin came off the bench and was a perfect 4-for-4 on 3-pointers for 12 points. Chris Peterson added 11 points. Mike Brumm added 10 points and six assists.

Dwight Weathers, Brian Diorio and Zak Zablocki had 12 points apiece for Silver Lake, which shot 37.7 percent from the floor.
