Green Knights Take Series Opener at UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS - St. Norbert College rallied from an early deficit and then hung on to post a 4-2 win over UW-River Falls in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Hunt Arena.

The No. 1-ranked Green Knights (7-0-1, 5-0-0 NCHA) trailed 1-0 after one period, but scored three times in the second period to take a 3-2 lead after two periods. The sixth-rated Falcons (5-2-1, 3-1-1) couldn't score in the third period and allowed an empty-net goal to Shane Wheeler with 27 seconds left.

River Falls drew first blood when Sean Roadhouse scored at the 14 minute 56 second mark of the first period. St. Norbert would stay off the scoreboard until Nick Tabisz broke the ice with his second goal of the season, scoring at 6:08. Matt Boyd added a power-play goal 1:19 later, and Justin Favreau scored just after a River Falls penalty expired, scoring at the 10:16 mark.

The Falcons answered 46 seconds later when Ben Beaudoin scored at 11:02. St. Norbert would give River Falls a pair of third-period power-play opportunities, but the hosts would not score.

Wheeler added two assists for a three-point game, while Boyd and Tabisz also had assists for two-point games.

St. Norbert outshot River Falls 25-22. B.J. O'Brien made 20 saves in net for the Green Knights, while Bo Storozuk made 21 stops for the Falcons. St. Norbert was 1-for-4 on the power play, while River Falls was 0-for-4.
