Green Knights Rally to Tip Beloit

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored two baskets in the final nine seconds to rally for a 68-65 win over Beloit College in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (7-2, 2-1 MWC), ranked No. 23 by D3hoops.com, played without leading scorer Denise Heuser for the third-straight game. Beloit fell to 3-6, 1-2. The game featured nine ties and 15 lead changes.

Beloit led 65-64 on a basket by Amanda Moore with 27 seconds left. St. Norbert moved ahead 66-65 on a driving jumper in the lane by Erin Baganz with nine seconds left. Beloit then turned the ball over at mid-court, and Stefanie Bunday scored with two seconds left for the game's final points.

St. Norbert struggled to score against Beloit's zone defense, shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, making 26 of 60 shots. The Green Knights made up for it by taking care of the basketball, committing just 10 turnovers.

The Green Knights led 54-48 with 10 minutes left before the Buccaneers went on a 13-4 run to take a 61-58 lead with 4:38 to go on a Moore 3-pointer. Beloit led until Baganz hit a jumper with 1:09 left for a 64-63 advantage.

Krista Pelky led St. Norbert with 20 points, while Rachel Hermus added 13 points and Baganz 11.

Beloit was led by 21 points from Moore, while Diana Sopkowicz added 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Buccaneers shot 57.8 percent (26-for-45) from the floor and held a commanding 35-21 rebounding advantage. Beloit also canned 7 of 11 3-pointers.
