St. Norbert Uses Defense to Pull Away From Grinnell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College held Grinnell College to four points over an 11 1/2-minute stretch in the second half to post a 74-53 win in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.

St. Norbert improved to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the MWC with the win, while Grinnell fell to 3-10, 1-5.

St. Norbert held a 44-40 lead with 15 minutes 9 seconds remaining after Grinnell's Michelle Briggs scored a basket. The Green Knights would go on a 23-4 from there, eventually leading 67-44 with 5:06 left.

Denise Heuser got the run started with a conventional three-point play on the first possession after Briggs' basket. Grinnell cut it to 51-44, but St. Norbert finished off the run with a 16-0 blitz. Kristin Zimmerman had a conventional three-point play to start the run.

Heuser had a game-hihg 23 points, going 9-for-12 from the floor. Stefanie Bunday added 12 points with 10 rebounds, with her rebound total a career high. The Green Knights had only five turnovers, and shot 40 percent (26-for-65) from the floor.

Jessica Shotts led Grinnell with 11 points, while Brianna Gallo added 10 points. The Pioneers were 16-for-51 (31.4 percent) from the floor and had 25 turnovers.
