Dionne Wins Pair of Events to Lead St. Norbert at Northern Challenge

MARQUETTE, Mich. - St. Norbert College senior Tony Dionne led the Green Knights' contingent at Northern Michigan University's unscored Northern Challenge held at the Superior Dome.

Dionne claimed a pair of event wins, copping both the shot put and weight throw. Dionne heaved the shot put 13.73 meters, and picked up the weight throw win with a toss of 13.05 meters.

Mackenzie Laska finished first in the mile run with a time of 4:33.42, and later placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:05.75. Paul Leeman had a pair of second-place showings in the high jump (1.88 meters) and long jump (6.04 meters). Jon O'Brien was second in the mile run with a time of 4:33.51, while Louis Ayensu-Mensah was second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.76 seconds.

Both "A" relays placed first. The 4x200-meter relay of Kirk Fishel, David Mason, Ham Dowden and Leeman turned in a time of 1:35.66. The 4x400-meter relay of Ryan Ascher, Steve Schumacher, Dowden and Laska easily won with a time of 3:34.32.

Mason had a third-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.84 seconds, and Bryon Betts was third in the weight throw with a distance of 11.63 meters.
