KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College didn't waste much time jumping into the fire in its 2010 softball season with a pair of games against perennial NCAA Division III stalwarts Montclair State University and Illinois Wesleyan at the Rebel Games.

The Green Knights topped Montclair State 3-0 in the opener before dropping a 4-3 decision to 11th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan in the nightcap.

St. Norbert would get its lone offense against Montclair State from the bat of catcher Brieanne Oehlke, the Green Knights' career home run leader. Oehlke hit a solo home run in the second inning and stroked a two-run shot in the sixth to boost her career total to 21.

Kayla Krueger made the home runs stand up, twirling a four-hit shutout. Krueger did not walk or strike out a Montclair State hitter. Of Krueger's 21 outs recorded, 18 came on groundballs.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Titans scored two unearned runs each in the first and sixth innings to scrape out the win. Oehlke had a two-run single in the third to tie the game at 2-2 and also had an RBI single in the seventh. Oehlke, who was 5-for-6 with six RBIs on the day, advanced to third on an outfield error with the potential tying run in the seventh but was stranded.

Kari Corbeille took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Illinois Wesleyan ace Christy Engel, who no-hit St. Norbert in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, was touched for five hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
