Green Knights Slug Way Past Concordia

DE PERE - St. Norbert College pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-7 non-conference win over Concordia University Wisconsin at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights improved to 9-7 with the win, while the Falcons dropped to 11-8. St. Norbert opens Midwest Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader against Ripon College at Mel Nicks Field.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings. Tony Jandron and Garrick Fisher had RBI singles in the first inning, and Jandron followed with a solo home run in the third. Jordan Powers then drove in a run with a safety squeeze bunt in the fourth, and Jandron smacked a three-run double.

Concordia scored four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut it to 7-5, but the Green Knights answered with two in the sixth and three in the seventh. Jared Yost's two-run home run made it 9-5. Powers then had a two-run single in the seventh, and Matt Hannon added an RBI single.

Jandron finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs, and is now hitting .491 on the season. Hannon was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Fisher, Ryan Kehl and Chris Hillesheim each had two hits.

Bryan Stoppenbach picked up the win, working six innings and allowing seven hits with one earned run, two walks and four strikeouts.
