Knights Turn In Second Place Finish at Oshkosh Invite

OSHKOSH - The St. Norbert College men's track and field team turned in an impressive second-place finish at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational at Kolf Sports Center.

The Green Knights totaled 138 points, trailing only the host school's 205 points. St. Norbert finished well ahead of third-place Ripon College, which had 79.5 points.

St. Norbert came up with five first-place finishes - getting two in the sprints, one relay, one in a distance event and one in a field event.

Ernest James won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.76 seconds, while Dann Schneider claimed the win in the 200 dash with a time of 23.06 seconds. Jeff Pentek won the 5,000-meter run by over a half minute, finishing with a time of 15:20.32. Tony Dionne finished first in the shot put with a heave of 44 feet, 6 inches.

The 4x200 relay squad of James, Tom Georgia, Schneider and Ham Dowden won that event, finishing with a time of 1:34.07, eight-tenths of a second ahead of runner-up UW-Oshkosh.

Paul Leeman had a pair of two-four finishes, finishing second in the triple jump with a leap of 44-5, while his jump of 20-10 1/2 in the long jump was fourth.

Alex DeVillers and Aaron Roden complemented Pentek's win in the 5,000 by placing third and fourth, respectively. DeVillers ran a time of 15:55.66, while Roden had a time of 15:59.87.

Jordan Gobert and Josh Zweiger finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles. Gobert finished with a time of 8.30 seconds, while Zweiger had a time of 8.43 seconds.

Dustin Dessell placed second in the long jump with a leap of 21-0 1/2. John Barrett was fourth in the 800 run with a time of 2:01.61. Dionne added a fifth-place showing in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 44-8 3/4.
