St. Norbert Ends Season With Sweep of Blackburn

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College saw its season come to an end with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Blackburn College by scores of 9-3 and 9-1 at MacMurray College's Don Timm Field.

The Green Knights saw their season end at 19-17 overall after not getting help in the Midwest Conference North Division race to qualify for the four-team MWC Tournament. St. Norbert finished a game behind the University of Chicago and lost on a tiebreaker for the second spot out of the North Division with Ripon College at 10-6.

St. Norbert got out to a comfortable lead on Blackburn in the opener, scoring two runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning. Sean Ferraro and Jack Maastricht had consecutive doubles to plate a pair of runs in the first inning. St. Norbert then scored five runs on one hit in the second inning, with five straight players drawing bases-loaded walks to bring home five runs.

The Green Knights added a pair of runs in the sixth inning on another RBI double from Maastricht and a run-scoring single from Brett Reinhart. Blackburn would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.

Maastricht was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Reinhart was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Lucas Reynolds was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Carson Jacques earned the win, allowing four hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

The Green Knights banged out 12 hits in the nightcap, getting three from Reynolds and two apiece from Ben Kohl, Griffin Jack and Andy Peterik.

Maastricht had an RBI groundout in the first inning, while Andy Peterik's single in the second drove in a run to make it 2-0. Blackburn scored a run in the second inning, but the Green Knights countered with an RBI grounder from Jack and a run-scoring single from Keagan McCarthy in the third. St. Norbert added two runs in the fourth inning on a Sean Ferraro run-scoring single and Reynolds scoring on a wild pitch.

St. Norbert scored three runs in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Jack, a sacrifice fly by McCarthy and an RBI grounder by Reynolds.

Sam Hunt earned the win, going four innings and allowing three hits and one run.
