A new Girls Leadership and Development Summer Camp (G.L.A.D.), designed to improve the self-esteem and self-image of girls in first through fourth grade, will be held at St. Norbert College July 6-17.

The camp, spearheaded by Deb Kunkel, will be taught by Wisconsin certified young women teachers who have been chosen for their ability to be great role models.

Scholarships are available to ensure that girls from disadvantaged backgrounds will be equally able to benefit from the experience.

"As a mother of four daughters, I am very aware of the challenges and pressures that girls face today," said Deb Kunkel who is wife of St. Norbert College president Thomas Kunkel. "This summer camp is designed to positively impact the participants by building confidence and leadership skills, fostering positive body image, and setting high-reaching goals."

The Girls Leadership and Development Summer Camp will be held each morning for two weeks, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All camp activities will take place on the St. Norbert College campus. Registration is $175, which includes a daily snack, a camp T-shirt and a final-day family celebration. The girls will be separated into groups based on the grade that they will be entering in the fall of 2009.

To register, contact Jamie McGuire at St. Norbert College at jamie.mcguire@snc.edu or by calling 920-403-3165.

The Girls Leadership and Development Summer Camp is made possible through support from Schreiber Foods, the Green Bay Packers and St. Norbert College.
