James Choi of Yale University and John List of the University of Chicago have agreed to be Blue Ribbon panel judges for the iOme Challenge, according to St. Norbert College professor of Economics, Kevin Quinn.
"Choi and List bring a great deal of experience to our Blue Ribbon Panel," said Quinn. "We wanted nationally recognized economists to help us, and we landed two of the most recognized in the field." Choi's research focuses on various aspects of household investment behavior and the effect those investments have on security prices. His work has led to changes in 401(k) plan design at many U.S. corporations and has influenced pension legislation both in the U.S. and abroad. List has served on the President's Council of Economic Advisors, and written extensively as an environmental economist who applies behavioral and experimental techniques. He has also written a number of significant papers with "Freakonomics" author Steven Levitt.
First-place team will share a minimum of $15,000 plus a $1,000 honorarium for the faculty advisor. The first-place team also earns a trip to Washington D.C. to share their plan with members of Congress, policymakers and special interests during the week of the State of the Union address likely in January 2010.
The iOme Blue Ribbon panel, made up of economists, business leaders and policy experts, will select one grand champion and three honorable mentions.
Teams must identify a team leader and a faculty advisor and complete an Intent to Submit form by Oct. 1, 2009. Deadline for submission is Dec. 31, 2009. Entries must be a combination of an essay and a video. Winners will be announced by Jan. 21, 2010.
The iOme Challenge is seeking entries from U.S. college students. For more information, go to http://www.iOmeChallenge.org.
