St. Norbert College's first-ever Mock Trial team will participate at the 2010 Milwaukee Regional Tournament at Marquette University on Feb. 20-21 with 23 other teams.

The St. Norbert College Mock Trial team consists of senior Patty Brehm (Cary, Ill.), senior Dillon Raunio (Green Bay, Wis.), senior Nicole Petrarca (Melrose Park, Ill.), junior Keenan Rogers (Acworth, Ga.), junior Leah Tabbert (Appleton, Wis.), sophomore Jay Lonick (Shawano, Wis.), sophomore Jay Crawford (Shawano, Wis.), sophomore Cara Rice (Kaukauna, Wis.), and freshman Larissa Dallman (De Pere, Wis.). The Mock Trial team's academic coach is Charles Jacobs, assistant professor of political science, and the attorney coach is Judge Marc Hammer. St. Norbert graduate Tricia Nell, attorney with Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry, S.C., also assists the team.

The new Mock Trial team is sponsored by Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry, S.C.; Hanaway Ross Law Firm; and the Brown County Bar Association.

The American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) was founded in 1985 and sponsors competitions around the country that require students to evaluate materials from a fictitious legal controversy and present the issues of the case both as attorneys and witnesses. Students offer arguments before lay judges who evaluate the cogency and clarity of the presentations and award points based on performance. Winning teams at regional events qualify for an opportunity to be crowned champion at the national tournament. Teams consist of six to eight students who adopt roles as attorneys and witnesses for both the plaintiff/state and defense.
