The Seven Last Words of Christ Dudley Birder Chorale Ecumenical Lenten program

The Dudley Birder Chorale will present a special Ecumenical Lenten program on Palm Sunday, March 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the St. Norbert Abbey Church. Tickets are $12. Recommend buying in advance; cash and check only accepted at the door. The event is open to the public.

The Seven Last Words of Christ, Theodore Dubois' sacred cantata, relates to the events surrounding the last words spoken by Jesus on the cross. The performances will be conducted by Dudley Birder, with Jeffrey Verkuilen accompanying at the Abbey Casavant organ. Soloists will be chorale members: Lee Anne Scovell and Elizabeth Zitny, sopranos; Michael Barber and Tim Olejniczak, tenors; and Kent Paulsen and Chad Lemerande, baritones.

Members of the local clergy will deliver brief reflections between each of the Seven Words of Christ. Participating in the 2 p.m. program will be Rev. Michael Baucom, Dr. Randy Argell, Rev. Guy Blair, Rev. Margaret Feyen, Rev. Tim Shillcox, Rev. Sarah Johnsen, and Rev. Jay Fostner. The 7 p.m. program will feature Rev. David Kasperek, Rev. Beth Macha, Dr. Larry Lang, Sr. Sally Ann Brickner, Rev. Amy Engebose, Rev. David Plier, and Rev. Charles Mize.
