St. Norbert College Wind Ensemble European tour 2010

The St. Norbert College Wind Ensemble will go on an eight day European Tour consisting of Austria and the Czech Republic from Tuesday, May 18 until Wednesday, May 26.

Retiring faculty Frederick Schmidt, the conductor of the Wind Ensemble and professor of music at St. Norbert College, and his wife Heather Schmidt, adjunct instructor in music education and flute, will accompany 40 students on the tour.

The St. Norbert College Wind Ensemble will be traveling to Prague; Retz; Linz, with a brief stop in the town of Czesky Krumlov; Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and where the Sound of Music was filmed; and Vienna, where Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, and Johann Strauss have honorary graves. The wind ensemble will attend a farewell concert in Vienna with music by Mozart and Johann Strauss at the Wiener Kursalon.

This is will be Schmidt's seventh Wind Ensemble tour. Previous tours have included: Western Europe; Australia/New Zealand/Fiji; Australia; Italy; Czech Republic/Austria (2004); and Hungary/Austria (2007).
