St. Norbert College has published "A Championship Team: The Packers and St. Norbert College in the Lombardi Years" (2010-St. Norbert College Press).
Told mostly through the words of those who were there, the book takes an insightful look at the Green Bay Packers' training camps during the most glorious period in the franchise's storied history. The Packers started holding training camp at St. Norbert College in 1958 and continue to do so today; the summer partnership between the team and the college is the longest in the NFL.

"The book is both a good read and a great history of an era that was pivotal for both the St. Norbert College campus and the Packer organization," said St. Norbert president Thomas Kunkel.

The book's author is Cliff Christl, who spent 36 years as a sportswriter at four different Wisconsin newspapers writing about the Green Bay Packers. A native of Green Bay, he grew up following the Lombardi Packers and started covering the team on a regular basis in 1974. Christl has served on the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee since 2001 and the Packer Hall of Fame selection committee since 2007. In addition he has written two other books about the Packers: "Mudbaths & Bloodbaths:The Inside Story of the Bears-Packers Rivalry" and "The Twenty-Five Greatest Moments in Lambeau Field History."

"We were fortunate to have Cliff take on this project with us," said Kunkel. "He knows the team, he knows the players and he knows the campus. He was the perfect person for the job."

"A Championship Team: the Packers and St. Norbert College in the Lombardi Years" is available at the Packer Pro Shop, and will be arriving in Shopko stores in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan in early November. The book will also be available at Bosse's Newsstand in downtown Green Bay, the St. Norbert College bookstore located in Todd Wehr Hall on the college campus, and from the St. Norbert College online store at www.snc.edu/go/shop under featured items. The cost of the book is $14.95.

There will be a book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Christl and President Kunkel on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the official dedication of the college's new Schneider Stadium. The Green Knights will host Grinnell at 1 p.m. in what is also the Green Knights' homecoming game.
