Seven St. Norbert College students have received McNair Program Scholarships. This is
the largest cohort of McNair scholars from St. Norbert College to date.
The students, all from Wisconsin, are:
Kathleen (Katy) Coutley, a junior from Waukesha
Ashley Erdman, a senior from Green Bay
Amanda Garcia, a sophomore from Green Bay
Steven Garza, a junior from Coon Valley
Kaela Gedda, a senior from De Pere
Devan Scherer, a sophomore from Two Rivers
Lauren Senour, a senior from Brown Deer
The McNair Program is a federally funded United States Department of Education TRIO
program designed to encourage students often underrepresented in graduate programs
to pursue doctoral degrees. The program extends this opportunity to students at St.
Norbert College, Ripon College and Lawrence University through a collaborative
participation initiative that is coordinated at Ripon College.
McNair scholars have the opportunity to participate in summer research experiences with
faculty mentors here at St. Norbert College or under special circumstances at other
institutions. Upon completion of the research, McNair scholars present their research to
faculty, staff, and peers at the McNair Symposium, and/or other conferences.
Additionally, McNair Scholars receive training, mentoring and guidance organized
through Ripon College's McNair office that prepare them for the graduate school
application process, including GRE preparation and test-taking.
