St. Norbert College alum Lynn Van Buren joins Washington office's International Trade Practice

The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP announced today that Lynn Van Buren has joined the firm as counsel in its Washington, D.C., office. She will work with clients in the areas of export and sanctions licensing, compliance and enforcement and international trade.
"Lynn will complement our robust International Trade Practice here in Washington and globally with her knowledge of export and sanctions issues," said Rodney Page, managing partner of Bryan Cave's Washington office.
Van Buren has counseled clients on the export of dual-use items and defense articles and services controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security and the U.S. Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. She also has assisted clients with licensing issues before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy, with licensing and compliance issues before the Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control and with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti-boycott regulations and proceedings before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
Van Buren has represented clients in civil and criminal enforcement proceedings relating to issues regulated by the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security, the US Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, and the Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control. Along with these enforcement actions, she has assisted clients with preparing voluntary disclosures, performing compliance audits, recommending modifications to compliance plans and identifying mitigating circumstances.
A recent recipient of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Client Choice Award in 2011, Van Buren was the sole lawyer in the United States named in the trade and customs category.
Van Buren graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. During law school she served as senior notes and comments editor of the International Law Journal and was a member of the Jessup International Moot Court Team. She received her M.A. from George Washington University and B.A., also with honors, from St. Norbert College.
