St. Norbert College Literary Award winners announced

The St. Norbert College English department hosted its annual Literary Awards on April 15.
Students submitted original works under the categories of creative prose, critical essay and poetry. The Mary McHale Wood Endowed Award for Excellence in Writing was also presented. The winners were:
Creative Prose:
1st place: excerpt from "The Shadows of Autumn," Joseph Paul Simurdiak, a freshman from Philips, Wis.
2nd place: "The Photograph," Lara Eucalano, a senior from Milwaukee, Wis.
Critical Essay:
1st place: "Sense and Sensibility in James Joyce's 'Ulysses': Establishing the Link Between Identity and Intimacy," Paige Caulum, a senior from Portage, Wis.
2nd place: "William Shakespeare's Semantic Dance and Word Tease in 'The Merchant of Venice, "Much Ado About Nothing," I Henry IV and 'Othello'," Jody Kolter, a senior from Milwaukee, Wis.
Poetry:
1st place: "For All the Florence Thompsons," Katie Meyer, a senior from Sister Bay, Wis.
The Mary McHale Wood Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Writing:
Gretchen Panzer, a junior from Appleton, Wis.
