St. Norbert College Music Theatre announces 2012 season

Music Theatre of St. Norbert College will celebrate its 51st season with two of the most successful and popular musicals of all time: Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music."

"South Pacific" is scheduled for ten performances in the 180-seat Webb Theatre on the St. Norbert campus, June 13-28; "The Sound of Music" will play nine performances July 19-29 in the 700-seat Walter Theatre.

Both musicals are classics and have played important roles in the development of the American Musical Theatre. "South Pacific" received the Pulitzer Prize in drama, The New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best musical and eight Tony Awards for best musical, book and score. "The Sound of Music" is the recipient of six Tony Awards and five Academy Awards, including best picture. Both hold reputations as among the most successful and significant musicals of all time.

Alicia Birder will direct "South Pacific" with Kent Paulsen as music director; James P. Birder will direct "The Sound of Music" with Dudley Birder as music director.

Auditions for "South Pacific" will be held May 6 and 7 with rehearsals beginning May 14; auditions for "The Sound of Music" are scheduled for May 29 and 30; rehearsals begin June 4.
