DE PERE, WIS.: St. Norbert College language services will offer Somali and Polish culture workshops on Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon in Cofrin Hall on the St. Norbert College campus.

The Somali population in northeast Wisconsin has quadrupled in the last year. The Somali workshop is designed for educators, health care workers, social services workers and others who work directly with the Somali population.

Hamida Ismael, paraprofessional in the Green Bay School District, will instruct the workshop. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the Somali culture, language and experience in northeast Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has the highest percentage of residents with Polish ancestry of any state. The Polish workshop is designed to deepen the community's understanding of the Polish culture and experience in northeast Wisconsin.

Participants will learn basic travel vocabulary and about customs specific to the country from native speakers and regional experts.

The deadline to register for each workshop is Feb. 10. Each workshop is $30 and will be limited to 15 students.
