The American Heart Association in Green Bay will hold its annual Heart Ball Saturday, April 14, at the Bemis Conference Center, St. Norbert College. The Heart Ball is the association's major fundraising event in the Green Bay area. The goal of the event is to raise $50,000 to support association research, education and advocacy necessary to combat cardiovascular disease, Wisconsin's leading cause of death.

With the theme "Have a Ball at the Movies," the evening will include the viewing of an award winning 1950's feature film. The red-tie event reception will begin at 6 pm with a special message delivered by American Heart Association supporter and volunteer Heart Ball Chair, Dom Capers, Defensive Coordinator, Green Bay Packers.
"Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, is still the leading cause of death in Wisconsin," Capers said. "The good news is that these diseases largely are preventable through healthy lifestyle changes such as good nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation and knowing your numbers -- blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar."

The Association funded 58 heart studies with 8 million dollars last year alone in Wisconsin. $3.3 billion has been invested in research since 1949 and led to breakthroughs such as CPR; pacemakers; bypass surgery; heart defect repair; and blood pressure, cholesterol and clot-busting drugs. Most recently, the Association led the fight for clean indoor air in Wisconsin, placed AEDs in public places like airports, golf courses and malls, reduced the calories Wisconsin children consume at school, and have helped hospitals in Green Bay provide better treatment for cardiac and stroke patients.
Limited space is remaining for corporate sponsorships, which include tickets for eight guests and sponsorship benefits. Individual tickets also are available at $200 per person and may be purchased by contacting event director, Kristin Jacobs at (920) 227-5808. For more information about the event visit heart.org/greenbayheartball.
The Heart Ball's media sponsor is WLUK FOX11. FOX11 news anchors Michelle Melby and Tom Milbourn will emcee the main program.

The Heart Ball's executive leadership team includes Jason Arendt, Marketing Account Liaison at Rennes Health & Rehab Center, Attorney Bret Liebmann of Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry, and Tracy Stansbury, Senior Vice President, Private Banking Manager at Associated Wealth Management.
