St. Norbert College Music Theatre announces auditions for "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music"

Auditions for the St. Norbert College Music Theatre production of "South Pacific" will be held in the college's Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts, 315 Third Street, De Pere, April 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. The musical, which calls for a cast of 32 adults, will be performed in the 180-seat Webb Theatre. There will be ten performances of "South Pacific" June 13-28. Rehearsals begin May 14.

"South Pacific" calls for three male and two female principal singing/acting roles, one female and three male non-singing roles and two roles for children. The singing/acting/dancing ensemble will consist of eight men and eight women, many of whom also play important singing and speaking roles.

Music Theatre's second production, "The Sound of Music," will begin rehearsals on June 4. Auditions for "The Sound of Music" are scheduled for May 29 and 30. Ten performances are scheduled July 18-29 in the Walter Theatre.

The cast consists of three female and three male principal singing/acting roles and five female and four male supporting roles. In addition, a 24-member female chorus plays an extremely important part in the musical.

Seven children's parts call for five girls, 8,10,12,14 and 16 years old, and two boys, 13 and 15. Two children will be cast in each role.

Children's roles for both musicals will be auditioned at 4 p.m., Monday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 2.

All those who are auditioning for singing roles will be asked to sing a selection of their choice, providing music for the staff accompanist. Readings for speaking roles will be taken from the script.

Many individuals are also needed backstage working on costumes, make-up, props and performance-running. Those interested in working backstage are encouraged to come to auditions and sign up.
