Blake Henson, an assistant professor of music at St. Norbert College, has co-authored "The Composer's Craft" with Gerald Custer. (2013-GIA Publications, Inc.)

The book explores the work of music composers and composition teachers, focusing on the elements of craft that composers use every day: the manipulation of sound and silence, gesture and color, text and texture.

Sought after for his choral, vocal and orchestral work, Henson has received numerous commissions from colleges, high schools, churches, community choruses and orchestras, and professional ensembles. His music has been performed in some of the finest venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, The National Cathedral and Spivey Hall, as well as concert halls in Canada, Mexico, England, South Africa, Taiwan, Australia and Japan.

Henson's work has received many awards, including a Pulitzer Prize nomination for "The Good Fence." He has taught at St. Norbert College since 2010.
