Language Services at St. Norbert College to Offer Summer Language Workshop and Camp

St. Norbert College Language Services will hold the following events in June for the general public:

"Rediscovering the Hmong: Understanding Hmong Culture and Traditions": This workshop is a thorough overview of Hmong history, culture and traditions, and their migration to the United States. The workshop will also explore the Hmong language, basic greeting phrases, religion (Shamanism), folktales, myths, gender roles, generational differences, story cloths (paj ntaub), textile arts, birth, marriage, funeral ceremonies, food, music, holidays and entertainment. The workshop will take place on Thursday, June 27, 1-4 p.m. at St. Norbert College. The cost of the workshop is $30 per person and $20 for St. Norbert College students, staff and alumni. Register by June 20.

"Passports to the World Summer Day Camp": This language and culture program is especially for children ages 5-11. Taught by St. Norbert College students, it combines a basic language curriculum with cultural activities to explore various areas of the world. The first session runs July 8-18 and the second session runs July 22-Aug. 1. Classes are Monday through Thursday mornings 8 a.m.-noon at St. Norbert College. The cost is $125 per student. The fee includes instruction, all course materials, a T-shirt and a certificate of completion. Register by June 25.
