Immel Construction Company has been presented with the prestigious Build Wisconsin Award by the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin for its work transforming the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church building into St. Norbert College's Cassandra Voss Center in 2013.

The renovations, which took place over the course of 2013 on a budget of $2.8 million, were made possible by numerous donors seeking to honor Cassandra Voss' memory. Voss - who would have been the first St. Norbert College student to complete an individualized major in women's and gender studies - lost her life in a car accident in 2007.

Immel Construction's work involved preserving the historical structure of the 130-year-old church building while thoroughly reinventing its interior and improving its accessibility and function.

The Cassandra Voss Center is now home to the college's Joan P. Schaupp Women's Center, Men's Initiative and women's and gender studies discipline. In addition, the facility has kitchen and dining space for both formal and informal gatherings of students, staff, faculty and community members. It also features a library and reflection room.

The Cassandra Voss Center was formally dedicated on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 (Voss' birthday). It is now fully operational and beginning its second academic year of programming.
