Brian Pirman, associate professor and discipline coordinator of art at St. Norbert College, has been given the Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence by the Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay.

Pirman received the award at the opening reception of the museum's 39th Juried Annual exhibition, on Saturday, Sept. 20. The award is named for the museum's founder, and includes the Gerhard Miller Medal, created by local artist Hermke Timm.

The Juried Annual exhibition is a competition among artists from Door, Brown, Kewaunee, Manitowoc and Oconto counties. The 2014 exhibition features 47 two-dimensional works by 41 artists, chosen by a jury from 148 submissions by 86 artists. In addition to the Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence presented to Pirman, the jurors also chose three works to receive Special Merit Awards and three pieces for the Juror's Choice Award.

The exhibition runs from Sept. 20 through Nov. 4 at the Miller Art Museum, inside Door County Library, 107 S. Fourth Ave., Sturgeon Bay. Regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The museum is free and open to the public, and is handicap-accessible.
