The Cassandra Voss Center at St. Norbert College will host a Skype conversation with Sana Amanat, along with other women creators, writers, and artists from Marvel Entertainment, in the second installment of its three-part "SkypeTacular!" series, which aims to showcase prominent creators and scholars of color in the comics industry. The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m. in the Fort Howard Theater at the Bemis International Center on the college campus, and is free and open to the public.

Amanat is an editor at Marvel Comics and is the co-creator of Ms. Marvel, the first solo series featuring a Muslim female superhero. She manages creative content for Marvel's publishing lines, including comics featuring the Avengers, the X-Men, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Miles Morales, the first African-American and Latino Spider-Man. Her special guests will include various other women creators from Marvel, making an exclusive, first-ever college appearance.

During the Skype discussion, entitled "Ms. Marvel and the League of Marvel Women Speak," Amanat and the other comics creators will discuss various facets of identity in the comics industry, including Muslim superheroes, biracial characters and women-created mass media. Wearing of Halloween costumes is encouraged, and the event will include a photo contest. Snacks will be provided.

The Cassandra Voss Center's "SkypeTacular!" series is part of its yearlong slate of programs, collectively entitled "Kapow! Who's Your Hero?" The programs will focus on themes of power, heroes and identity, as explored through the medium of superhero comics.
