St. Norbert College's newly founded chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines--will initiate its first group of members on Wednesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in the Walter Theatre of the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the college campus.

Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only. Qualifying St. Norbert College students received invitations beginning the week of Jan. 26. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and the top 7.5 percent of juniors, who must have completed at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Jeff Frick, dean of the college and academic vice president, who is himself a Phi Kappa Phi member, will be the featured speaker during the initiation ceremony.

St. Norbert College formally became the 327th chapter of Phi Kappa Phi on May 7, 2014.

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on more than 300 college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated into the Society each year. Its mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." Benefits of membership in Phi Kappa Phi include academic prestige, the ability to apply for a variety of scholarships and grants, and discounts from the Society's partner companies.
