Singer and songwriter Carrie Newcomer will lead a workshop entitled "Guitar Hero Workshop: Write Lyrics Like You Mean It" at the Cassandra Voss Center on the St. Norbert College campus. The workshop will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19. Newcomer will discuss how to write powerful song lyrics that drive home a message. No prior songwriting experience is necessary to attend, and the workshop is free and open to the public.

In addition to the workshop, Newcomer will also present a concert, entitled Room at the Table, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Dudley Birder Hall on the St. Norbert College campus. Admission to the concert is free, though there will be a free will offering to benefit St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter in Green Bay. Space is limited, so those who wish to attend must reserve tickets with the St. Norbert College Box Office by visiting http://tickets.snc.edu or calling 920-403-3950.
Newcomer is a songwriter and performer who has traveled the world extensively and taken part in a wide variety of activism. She has acted as a cultural ambassador to India, and has visited Kenya on behalf of the Interfaith Hunger Initiative. Newcomer's most recent album, "A Permeable Life," was released in April of 2014, along with a book of the same title. She previously visited St. Norbert College in 2007.

This event is part of the Cassandra Voss Center's yearlong slate of programs, collectively entitled "Kapow! Who's Your Hero?" The programs will focus on themes of power, heroes, and identity, as explored through the medium of superhero comics. Newcomer's workshop is co-sponsored with the office of Faith, Learning, and Vocation.
