St. Norbert College music department alumnus Devin Atteln '14 has earned the Colleague certification of the American Guild of Organists. To achieve this certification, Atteln took the Guild's Colleague Examination
on Nov. 14, 2014, during which he performed selections by Bach, Pierné and Langlais, accompaniments of a choral anthem and a vocal solo, and two hymns. He was also tested for sight reading, harmonization, transposition and improvisation. By earning the Colleague certification, Atteln has earned the privilege to append the initials "CAGO" after his name.
About 15% of American Guild of Organists members pursue certification. Atteln is now one of three members of the northeastern Wisconsin chapter of the Guild to hold the Colleague certification.
Atteln hails from Tomah, Wis. At St. Norbert College, he studied under adjunct instructor of music Jeffrey Verkuilen, who has himself earned the Fellowship certification in the Guild. Atteln was also a member of St. Norbert's Honors Program, and graduated from St. Norbert College summa cum laude.

Founded in 1896, the American Guild of Organists seeks to set and maintain high musical standards and to promote understanding and appreciation of organ and choral music. The Guild serves approximately 17,000 members in more than 300 chapters throughout the United States and abroad.
