More than 300 people attended the 24th annual Wisconsin Main Street Awards dinner, hosted by the Wisconsin Main Street program at St. Norbert College on Friday, April 17. 21 awards were given out at the event to honor main street projects, events, campaigns and construction efforts. Two of those awards went to people and organizations affiliated with St. Norbert College.
Amy Sorenson, the college's chief of staff, was named De Pere's Volunteer of the Year for her work with Definitely De Pere, the city's official main street community.
The state-wide award for Best New Building went to the college's recently completed Gehl-Mulva Science Center. St. Norbert College shared the award with Miron Construction and Performa Inc.
2015 marks the quasquicentennial (125th) anniversary of De Pere's founding, as well as its 25th year of being a part of the Wisconsin Main Street program. As one of the first five communities in the program, De Pere has achieved great success since the program's beginnings in 1990.
