The St. Norbert College Cassandra Voss Center (CVC) announces Harry Brod, professor of sociology and humanities at the University of Northern Iowa, as a distinguished visiting scholar in the fall of 2016. Brod will launch the Cassandra Voss Center 2016-17 theme: Masculinities.

Brod is widely recognized as a founding figure of the field of masculinity studies. An author or editor of eight books, Brod will teach the first-ever Introduction to Masculinities course at St. Norbert College. He will lead a master class for faculty and staff on the state-of-the-art field in masculinity studies.

Brod will also be involved in discussions of anti-violence around issues of consent. All public Brod talks will be free and open to the public.

Masculinity studies considers what it means to be a man and the construction of masculinity; it addresses the questions: how does masculinity shape boys and men? When is masculinity detrimental by limiting a full range of feeling and emotion? Or why do many men have shorter life expectancies? What are the social, political and historical ramifications of masculine identity and expression?

Further details on the Harry Brod visiting professorship will be released in the coming months. For more, visit http://www.snc.edu/cvc or http://www.facebook.com/snc.cvc.
