Wisconsin Badgers athletics director Barry Alvarez will be one of the featured speakers at the Sport and Society Conference hosted by St. Norbert College and the Green Bay Packers, May 23-25, 2016. The theme of the conference is "The Business of College Sports."

Alvarez will speak on Tuesday morning, May 24, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the Walter Theatre in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts at St. Norbert College. Alvarez's talk will be free and open to the public.

Alvarez is in his 12th year as director of athletics at the University of Wisconsin and his 10th without the additional title of head football coach. Wisconsin has enjoyed remarkable success during Alvarez's tenure at the head of the athletics department, winning a combined 14 team national titles and 53 conference regular-season or tournament crowns since he took over.

On the academic side, more than 1,000 student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big-Ten honors in Alvarez' tenure.

Alvarez was voted into the state of Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2009 and was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

This is the fourth Sport and Society conference of its kind put on by St. Norbert and the Packers. The first conference was held in 2010. This partnership between an NFL team and an institution of higher education brings together academics and business professionals from around the country.
The Packers have held their summer training camp at St. Norbert College for 58 years, the longest such relationship in the NFL between a pro football team and a college. For more on the connections between St. Norbert College and the Green Bay Packers, go to http://www.packers.com/news-and-events/training-camp/st-norbert-college.html.

Presentation or paper abstracts will be accepted from Dec. 1, 2015, until Feb. 1, 2016, with notification of acceptances shortly thereafter, following review by the conference steering committee. Formal conference registration will open on March 1, 2016, and close on April 1, 2016. Registration will be limited.
